2009 Energy Code Now in Effect Statewide for Residential Spaces

The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for residential spaces took effect statewide on January 1, 2011. (The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for nonresidential spaces took effect on November 23, 2010.) For determining the 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements, you need to look at both the 2009 Washington State Energy Code and Seattle ordinance 123430. Wherever the Seattle ordinance contains modifications to a section, the ordinance language supersedes the 2009 Washington State Energy Code. There is no one document at this point that folds all the text together.

Updated versions of the electronic compliance forms for nonresidential and multifamily residential spaces are now posted on the Seattle Energy Code website, www.seattle.gov/dpd/energy. Work is underway to prepare code insert pages with the Seattle amendments, and to update the Seattle Energy Code website, single-family compliance forms, Client Assistance Memos and Director’s Rules. See the “2009 Seattle Energy Code Update” link in the upper right-hand corner of the Seattle Energy Code homepage: www.seattle.gov/dpd/energy. New material will be posted as it becomes available.

DPD will schedule public training sessions after the updated materials are available.
