Council Unanimously Adopts Shoreline Master Program
On January 22, 2013 Seattle City Council unanimously adopted Council Bill 117585comprising the first comprehensive update of Seattle’s Shoreline Master Program (SMP) since 1987.
Amending the Comprehensive Plan
City Council is now considering a package of amendments to the Seattle Comprehensive Plan. DPD helped the Mayor prepare these amendments, which came from several different sources including the City’s Green Ribbon Commission, the Seattle Planning Commission, neighborhood planning groups and individuals.

Citywide Design Guidelines to be Updated
The City’s neighborhood-specific design guidelines are proposed to be reformatted to match the organization and structure of the updated citywide guidelines in order to make it easier to use both sets of guidelines—citywide and neighborhood—for any given project. Changes to the neighborhood guidelines are limited to formatting changes; none of the original content of the neighborhood-specific guidelines has been changed.
Own or Manage a Building in Seattle?
For buildings larger than 50,000 square feet that complied last year, most of the work is done. It is important to review and update existing benchmarking data before the upcoming April 1 deadline. Doing so is the owner’s responsibility to ensure an accurate and on-time report of 2012 energy performance.
Seeking New Commissioners For Seattle Planning Commission
The City of Seattle is looking for candidates to serve on the Seattle Planning Commission beginning in April 2013. Planning commission members are appointed by the Mayor or the City Council to serve renewable, three-year terms. This year, three positions will open in all; one position will be appointed by the Mayor and two will be appointed by the City Council.
