The Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) is partnering with the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation & Development Authority (SCIDpda) to improve the Chinatown/International District/Little Saigon neighborhood’s environmental performance in ways that will enhance its unique character.
The Environmental Protection Agency is supporting the City’s efforts through awarding us a Sustainable Neighborhood Assessment by Global Green USA. In the assessment, the Global Green team will:
- Review existing neighborhood plans and policies
- Meet with key stakeholders from the City and the community
- Tour the neighborhood
Based on their assessment, the team will generate recommendations for physical and/or policy changes that would help the neighborhood become more environmentally sustainable. These recommendations could include improving transit and bicycle facilities, preserving affordable housing, expanding local job opportunities, or retrofitting to existing buildings to become more energy-efficient.
For more information about Global Green’s assessments, see http://www.globalgreen.org/blog/sustainable-neighborhood-assesments?rq=sustainable%20neighborhood%20assessments.
The Global Green team will visit the Chinatown/ID/Little Saigon neighborhood on May 9 – 11 and will facilitate a workshop with community members on the evening of May 10 (6:00 – 8:00 p.m., location to be determined). The Chinatown/ID/Little Saigon community is invited to attend.
