The draft Seattle Residential Code is available for public comment. DPD expects the 2012 Seattle Residential Code to take effect next summer or fall along with the other 2012 technical codes. The draft contains only the portions of the code for which amendments are being proposed.

New Incentives for Energy Conservation in Commercial Buildings
Seattle City Light is seeking three commercial office buildings to participate in a three-year pilot program to test an energy conservation concept known as “Pay-for-Performance.” Under this pilot, City Light will provide financial incentives through ongoing payments for incremental energy savings, rather than on a one-time basis as is done through its traditional energy conservation programs.
Green Roof and Living Wall Workshop
The Washington Association of Landscape Architects is offering a workshop for landscape architects and other design professionals seeking to learn more about green roofs and living walls. The instructor will share a range of precedents that illustrate key strategies and pitfalls to green roof and living walls design. This course is appropriate for those with some exposure to the topics through experience or study.
Design Review Program Update: Scheduling Recommendation Meetings
In an effort to create a more predictable design review process, while continuing to strive for high quality architecture and urban design, DPD will be implementing the new procedures beginning in January 2013.
Seeking Seattle’s Design Review Board Members
Mayor Mike McGinn is looking for qualified candidates to fill nine upcoming openings on the city of Seattle’s Design Review Board. The volunteer positions will be available April 4, 2013 when retiring board members’ terms expire. Board members are appointed by the Mayor and City Council and serve two-year terms. Members serve on one of seven boards that review projects in the city’s major geographic districts.
New Draft Green Stormwater Director’s Rule
Seattle Public Utilities and DPD are publishing two joint rules. The purpose of these rules is to clarify the City’s requirement to implement “green stormwater infrastructure to the maximum extent feasible.” The rule will define steps for reporting and evaluating compliance with this requirement.

DR 1-2013, “Implementation of the Fee Subtitle, Building Valuation Data,” describes how we calculate and update the building valuation data that is used to determine fees for reviews, permits, and inspections.
