The final Shoreline Master Program regulations were passed by City Council on April 6, and signed by Mayor Murray on April 10, 2015 (Ordinance 124750). This ordinance completes Seattle’s requirement to comply with the 2003 Shoreline Master Program (SMP) Guidelines established by the Department of Ecology under the Shoreline Management Act (SMA). The last major update of the City’s SMP was in 1987.
Updated Tree and Vegetation Protection Details
DPD has updated the Construction Stormwater Control Plan and Post Construction Soil Management Plan, with a new tree and vegetation protection detail. The detail now includes the standard requirements to protect code-defined exceptional trees or any tree requiring protection during construction. It includes directions on who to contact when you may need to make field-identified modifications to the required tree protection zone.
Seeking a Construction Codes Advisory Board Representative
Mayor Ed Murray is seeking candidates for a vacant position on Seattle’s Construction Codes Advisory Board. The current open position is for a representative of apartment building owners or operators. The application period is Friday, May 1, 2015 to Monday, June 15, 2015.
Seattle Priority Green—Program Updates & Open House
The Priority Green program is a voluntary green building permit incentive that was established by DPD in 2009-10. The incentive program encourages project teams to reach for a higher level of sustainability in exchange for an expedited permit process. We’ve made some recent requirement changes, and we’re proposing some new requirements. We’re hosting a Priority Green open house to get your feedback.
Three Stormwater Code and Manual Update Meetings this Month
We invite you to attend the special Stormwater Code informational meeting for the Seattle Public Utilities and Neighborhoods (SPUN) Committee. It is on Friday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. in the City Hall’s Council Chambers, 600 4th Avenue. Essentially we are presenting “Stormwater Code 101” to the SPUN Committee.

In May 2014, DPD published the Draft 2015 City of Seattle Stormwater Code and Stormwater Manual, Volumes 1 through 5, and the appendices. They are available for review on our Stormwater Codes & Rules Update website.
Environmental Critical Areas Open House Wrap Up
On Wednesday, February 25, DPD hosted an open house at City Hall for the 2015 update to our environmentally critical areas (ECAs) regulations. We presented an overview of what ECAs are, how we regulate them, and what changes we are considering in this update. We also had large maps of each ECA type on display.

Reminder: SEPA Checklist – Updated Format
Starting January 1, 2015 we will require that you submit the updated State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) checklist in order for your Master Use Permit Application to be considered a complete application. The Washington Department of Ecology updated the SEPA rules and the SEPA Environmental Checklist. They were effective May 10, 2014.
Seattle Electrical Code Effective on November 12, 2014
The Mayor and City Council approved the Electrical Code amendments and the new code is effective November 12, 2014.
