SDCI now requires online applications for all over-the-counter (OTC) applications. OTC applications are Single-Family/Duplex Furnace, Refrigeration, and Over-the-Counter Electrical permits. We issue your permits in 1 – 2 business days after you submit a complete application.

New Director’s Rule on Fee Implementation
SDCI has published DR 18-2018 to explain the City’s responsibility for collecting Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) fees for issued building permits. DR 18-2018 also streamlines and replaces DR 3-2013.
Seattle Services Portal Update
It has now been one month since we implemented our new permit, inspection, and complaint system, the Seattle Services Portal (also known as Accela). We acknowledge that these initial weeks have brought many challenges, but the system is working. Since implementation, we have issued 231 construction permits (all types), 1,463 electrical over-the-counter permits, and 60 mechanical permits.

Reminder: Multiple Meter Flow Test Improvement
Beginning June 4, 2018, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will make changes to the multiple meter flow test process to ensure that meters are connected to the correct private water lines in order to improve billing accuracy.

On May 4, SDCI published a proposed joint Director’s Rule with Department of Neighborhoods, for review and for public comment until May 21, 2018.
Issues and Resolutions for SDCI’s Permitting System
SDCI replaced its entire suite of permitting applications on Monday, April 30 with a new integrated system. As with any big software update, there are some things to work out in the transition. Here is a list of ones we know about and what has been resolved. We’ll update this list periodically as changes occur.
New Permit System Launched on April 30
SDCI launched new permitting software on April 30, 2018! All permitting, licensing, inspections, and complaint functions are now available in the new system.
