Seeking Architect for Seattle Design Commission
Mayor Murray is looking for a new Architect member of the Seattle Design Commission to fill an upcoming vacancy. The term will begin in March 2015.
Design Commission members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council for up to 2 two‐year terms. The 10‐member Commission is made up of architects, artists, urban designers, environmental designers, urban planners, landscape architects, engineers, members‐at‐large, and one member from Get Engaged, the YMCA Young Civic Leaders Program.
Help Shape Growth in Ballard
In response to ongoing development, the community’s desire to retain Ballard’s character, and Sound Transit’s planning for light rail to Ballard, Seattle DPD, Department of Transportation (SDOT), and neighborhood groups and non-profits, organized as the Ballard Partnership for Smart Growth, have been working to develop an Urban Design Framework (UDF). The UDF is a collaborative vision of urban design, land use, transportation, and other strategies that will guide future development while ensuring Ballard’s people and places thrive.

Did you know that most landslides occur between the months of October and April? And that 86 percent of landslides are caused to some extent by human activity? Landslide season is upon us and the City of Seattle is urging residents to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their property from possible landslides.
Grading Season Restrictions Began November 1
The rainy season is here. This means that grading activities are restricted between November 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015. If your project includes Geotechnical Special Inspections AND if your project is in an environmentally critical area or involves a large quantity of earth-moving, check the Geotechnical Special Inspection assignment letter DPD sent you shortly after your permit was issued. If you see an item called “Monitor Grading Season Restriction” on the assignment letter, this means that grading between November 1, 2014 and March 31, 2015 is prohibited unless you apply for and receive a Grading Season Extension.
Seattle Electrical Code Effective on November 12, 2014
The Mayor and City Council approved the Electrical Code amendments and the new code is effective November 12, 2014.
Construction Code Advisory Board Application Deadline Extended
The application deadline for new board members on the Construction Codes Advisory Board (CCAB) has been extended to Wednesday, December 3. The CCAB board members represent professions and the general public. We are currently seeking board members to represent electrical contractors, developers / contractors of residential properties, and the general public.

Georgetown Neighborhood Community Meeting
DPD is currently considering amendments to the City’s comprehensive plan that would impact future proposals to make changes to industrial lands in the Manufacturing and Industrial Center (MI/C), which would include areas in Georgetown. We are holding a community-wide meeting on November 5 at the Seattle Central College-Georgetown Campus (6:00 p.m., Room C122).
Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda
This month Mayor Murray and members of City Council launched work on a new Housing Affordability and Livability Agenda. The Mayor and Council have called together leaders in our community to help develop a bold agenda for increasing the affordability and availability of housing in our city. The agenda will chart a course for the next 10 years to ensure the development and preservation of a diversity of housing for people across the income spectrum. The Housing Affordability & Livability Advisory Committee will review every piece of the housing puzzle, including innovative ideas to pilot new types of housing, accessory dwelling unit regulations, new efforts to preserve existing affordable housing, opportunities to stretch our valuable Housing Levy dollars, and more.
