Two Neighborhoods Finalize Their Plan Updates and Begin to Implement Priorities

This March, the communities of Broadview – Bitter Lake – Haller Lake and Rainier Beach will start taking action on priorities for their neighborhoods. Two upcoming workshops will give the communities the chance to celebrate the completion of their neighborhood plan updates and begin the implementation of priorities to achieve the respective communities’ goals.

Yesler Terrace Recommendations Released

The Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) has proposed draft legislation related to the redevelopment of Yesler Terrace. The proposal includes a rezone, documents regulating environmental mitigation, changes to the street system, and funding agreements between the City and Seattle Housing Authority (SHA). The proposal builds from Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan and SHA’s redevelopment plan, and includes requirements for affordable housing, parks, community gardens, and street improvements.

Platting and Lot Standards Legislation Adopted

On January 26, Mayor McGinn signed Ordinance 123809, Platting and Lot Standards. This ordinance becomes effective on February 25, 2012. Seattle Community Budget Conference this Sunday, January 29

Members of the public are invited to help Seattle City government kick off its two-year budget process. The Mayor, Director of the City Budget Office, City Councilmembers, and representatives of more than 20 City departments are beginning a dialogue with the public about Seattle's revenue and spending priorities. Mayor Mike McGinn, City Councilmember and Budget Chair Tim Burgess, and City Budget Director Beth Goldberg will speak, and more than 20 agencies will discuss their budgets at booths and in presentation groups.

Design Excellence Awards Winners for 2010-2011 Announced by Seattle Design Commission

The Seattle Design Commission Chair Julie Bassuk today announced the winners of the Commission’s 2010-2011 Design Excellence Awards. The five winning projects were selected from the many public buildings, parks, open spaces, and vision plans completed in Seattle in the past two years. They were chosen because they promote the mission and exemplify the values of the Design Commission: inspired design, contextual integration, innovative sustainability, social inclusion, exemplary partnerships, effective investment, and impeccable execution. For the first time an “In the Works” award will be given to a project that hasn’t been constructed, but has had an exemplary design process and holds outstanding potential.
