New Regulations for Micro-Housing
We‘ve monitored micro housing and congregate residences in Seattle for over two years. We’ve evaluated our rules, and are now proposing changes that will ensure we have clear and consistent regulations in place. Our proposed legislation is based on our research and responds to concerns raised by the public and elected officials.
Street Concept Plans for Public Review
DPD and the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) are releasing final versions of several streetscape concept plans for public comment. The streetscape plans are guides for improvements to streets and sidewalks that can be made over time when new buildings are built, or with city sponsored projects. These streetscape plans were done as part of our planning in neighborhoods throughout the city over the past few years.
Reminder: Time to Apply for Grading Season Extension
The rainy season is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to think about whether you will be doing any grading between November 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. If your project includes Geotechnical Special Inspections AND if your project is in an environmentally critical area or involves a large quantity of earth-moving, check the Geotechnical Special Inspection assignment letter sent to you by DPD shortly after permit issuance.
Correction: City Council has Approved the 2012 Seattle Codes
The 2012 Seattle building, energy, residential, mechanical, fuel gas, existing building, plumbing and fire codes were approved by the City Council on September 16. The 2012 codes will become mandatory on December 26, 2013.
DPD Service Changes Coming
Effective December 1, Master Use Permit applications for lot boundary adjustments, unit lot subdivision and short plats must be submitted via DPD’s electronic plan review portal.
Floating Residences Open House Oct. 1
When does the Seattle Shoreline Master Program (SSMP) allow floating residences? DPD has been asked to provide a Director’s Rule to assist owners of vessels and other floating properties currently moored in Seattle waters who seek to use those properties as residences. The rule will provide criteria for determining whether a floating residence meets SSMP requirements. The rule will not apply to floating homes or house barges.
Finding Geotechnical (Soils) Reports Online
Many customers have had trouble finding geotechnical reports (also known as soils reports) on our website. We’re evaluating if there is a way to provide a better path to these reports.
Seeking Applicants for Mayor’s Construction Code Advisory Board
Mayor Mike McGinn invites applicants to fill three positions on the Construction Codes Advisory Board. These positions will represent these professions: Organized Labor; General Contractors; Apartment Building Owners and Operators.
Upcoming Design Review Board Openings
Seattle’s Design Review Program will be seeking new volunteer board members to join the program in April 2014. Applications will be available in November 2013 on both the Design Review website, as well as on DPD’s blog. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our built environment and civic engagement.
