Seattle Public Utilities has successfully certified their Operations and Control Center facility as a LEED for Commercial Interiors (CI) Gold project, the City of Seattle’s first LEED CI – Gold project. The project was an adaptive reuse of the facility to support the utility’s mission and fulfill strategic priorities for the next century. With energy efficiency and seismic upgrades at the heart of the renovation, the project also pursued water efficiency and indoor air quality improvements. By reusing the facility, SPU avoided substantial resource depletion and waste generation that building a new facility would entail.
