—City of Seattle 2011 Landslide Awareness Meetings Oct. 29 and Nov. 12
Did you know there were nearly 100 reported landslides in Seattle last year? This was a tremendous increase from past years and landslide experts say the wet weather conditions played a large factor.
With the threat of another La Niña type season, the City of Seattle is encouraging homeowners, residents and citizens to prepare and protect themselves from future landslides.
As part of an annual series, DPD and Seattle Public Utilities will be hosting two free landslide meetings. The meetings will provide presentations and individual consultation on best practices for managing landslide-prone properties. The meetings will be held on:
Saturday, Oct. 29
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Northgate Community Center
Multipurpose Room
Saturday, Nov. 12
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
South Seattle Community College
Judge Warren and Nobie Chan Education Center
Presentations will include a discussion of the causes of landslides and proper drainage and vegetation for sloping sites. The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session and time for one-on-one discussions.
Both meetings will have the same format and information. Joining City of Seattle staff are: The American Society for Civil Engineers; The Association of Engineering Geologists; T he International Society of Arboriculture; and Associated Building Contractors.
