—City prepares for electronic plan review and wants to know technological barriers
For more than two years, DPD has been working with volunteer applicants to test our electronic plan review service. This process will allow customers to submit their plans electronically and provide cost savings by reducing paper usage, time spent reproducing and consolidating plan sets and eliminating most trips to DPD.
DPD would like to expand the electronic plan review option to the general public, but wants to know of any technological barriers future applicants could face. The department has setup an online survey to ask the public directly: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DPDelectronicplanreview.
Since the pilot project started in September 2010, DPD has accepted 372 electronic plan sets and has about 150 applicants participating in full plan submission. Projects have ranged from single-family additions to construction of new townhomes and commercial buildings.
Benefits of electronic plan review:
-
Avoid multiple trips to DPD
-
Dramatically reduce paper usage
-
Submit plans and related information online
-
Allow various reviews to occur simultaneously
-
More efficient project management
-
Potential to reduce permit timelines
-
Online fee payment and permit issuance
