On April 16, the City Council’s Sustainability & Transportation Committee will hold a public hearing to take comments on proposed legislation to add new requirements for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in new off-street parking spaces. The hearing will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Seattle City Council Chambers at City Hall, on the 2nd floor at 600 4th Avenue.
The proposed amendments to the Land Use Code would require new development in Seattle to provide electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The amendments to the Land Use Code (Title 23) would require that a certain amount of off-street parking spaces include the wiring and electrical (power) outlets necessary to be considered “EV ready,” to make it easier for someone to install charging equipment or stations there in the future.
The purpose of this legislation is to reduce barriers to owning electric vehicles and to put us on the path to meet our carbon neutral goal. We are doing this work in partnership with the Office of Sustainability and Environment. Our effort is part of the Drive Clean Seattle initiative.
