On April 29, the City Council voted to adopt legislation to add new requirements for electric vehicle charging infrastructure in new off-street parking spaces. The legislation will now be sent to the Mayor for a signature. Read the Mayor’s statement for more information about this legislation.
Once enacted, the updates to the Land Use Code will require all new buildings in Seattle that include off-street parking spaces to also provide the electrical (power) outlets necessary to be considered “EV ready.” This will make it easier for someone to install charging stations there in the future.
The purpose of this legislation is to reduce barriers to owning electric vehicles and to put us on the path to meet our carbon neutral goal. We completed this work in partnership with the Office of Sustainability and Environment as part of the Drive Clean Seattle initiative.
