DPD is moving toward a monthly billing process for land use applications. When implemented, later this fall, monthly invoices will be sent for land use projects which accrue fees during any given month. Invoices will be sent to the financially responsible party who will have 30 days to pay the invoice and avoid the cancellation and collection process.
The City Council’s Committee on the Built Environment (COBE) is currently reviewing proposed updates to Northgate’s Urban Center & Overlay District Design Guidelines. Council will hold a public hearing to take comments on June 23rd, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council’s Chamber, 2nd floor, Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Avenue.

On April 22, EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule went into effect. The rule requires contractors performing renovation, repair or painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child-care facilities, and schools built before 1978 to be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
On Tuesday, May 25, 2010, DPD will hold a public meeting to present draft design concepts for Thomas Street.
After extensive input from neighborhood groups and property owners, DPD urban designers are developing a concept plan for Thomas St. from Eastlake Avenue to Myrtle Edwards Park, passing through South Lake Union, Seattle Center, and Uptown. Although currently divided by Aurora, Thomas St. will be reconnected as one continuous surface road when the North Portal of the waterfront tunnel is completed. This will create an important new pedestrian connection between neighborhoods.
Electronic plan submission and review is now in the pilot project stage. DPD will be working with 45 applicants to develop processes and technology for electronic submission and review of plan sets for building and land use permits.
DPD’s system for self-issued electrical permits is due to be upgraded this summer. The new system will have the capability to handle additional permit items now acceptable for online issuance.
As you’ve probably heard, many in the City will be taking unpaid furlough days due to the City’s current financial situation. This includes DPD. In an effort to continue meeting our customer service objectives and recognizing the range of resources needed on any given day, DPD’s offices will be closed ten days in 2010, rather than having partial resources available some days. The 2010 dates fall on Fridays except Thursday, Dec. 23.
