Free Public Workshops: Multifamily Lowrise Code
Here’s your chance to learn more information about the new Multifamily Lowrise Code by attending one of two free public overview sessions on March 3, 2011 (same format). The morning session takes place from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the evening session will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Construction Codes Advisory Board Seeking Members
Mayor Mike McGinn is looking for 6 new members for the Construction Codes Advisory Board. Board members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council for renewable, three‐year terms. We are recruiting for an architect, general contractor, electrical contractor, commercial building owner or operator, developer or contractor of residential projects, and representative of organized labor.
Seattle’s Shoreline Rules to Change
Today the City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development published proposed changes to Seattle’s Shoreline Master Plan. The update, which is mandated by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act, revises city regulations for Seattle’s extensive shorelines, including along the Puget Sound and Elliott Bay, Duwamish River, Lake Union/Ship Canal, Green Lake and Lake Washington, and is the first major update since 1987.
West Seattle Triangle Open House
DPD will host a West Seattle Triangle Open House on Monday, February 7, 2011, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Senior Center of West Seattle, 4217 S.W. Oregon Street.
South Lake Union Urban Design Framework Celebration
Join us to celebrate the completion of the South Lake Union Urban Design Framework.
The Urban Design Framework establishes a shared design vision and implementation strategy for the future of South Lake Union. The framework translates 15 years of community planning into guiding principles, conceptual recommendations, and implementation actions.
Public Meeting: Side Sewer Code Changes and Clarifications
DPD and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) staff will be hosting a meeting to discuss changes and clarifications regarding the Side Sewer Code.
2009 Seattle Energy Code Documents Now Available
Several items have been posted on the Seattle Energy Code website for download within the last month. These can all be accessed from the right hand navigation tab on the Seattle Energy Code homepage.
Proposed Changes to Vacant Building Enforcement
DPD is proposing amendments to the Housing and Building Maintenance Code (Seattle Municipal Code Section 22.206) and the Land Use Code (Seattle Municipal Code Section 23.91), concerning standards for habitable and vacant buildings.
Planning Commission Spotlight – Radhika Nair
Radhika Nair was appointed by Seattle City Council to the Seattle Planning Commission in 2010.
Born in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) a 3000-year old city in Kerala state, in tropical southwest India, you might wonder, as I did, how Radhika Nair found herself in Seattle. It’s a tale worth hearing, for it helps one see what a gift it is to have her as a planning commissioner in Seattle.
