The 2009 Seattle codes became mandatory for all permit applications submitted November 23, 2010 or later. The building, residential and mechanical codes are available from the DPD Public Resource Center on the 20th floor of Seattle Municipal Tower, 500 5th Avenue, or by calling (206) 684-8467.
The last day to submit permit applications using the 2006 Seattle Codes is November 22. This includes the Building, Residential, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Existing Buildings codes, as well as the nonresidential portions of the Seattle Energy Code.
We expect the code books to be available in the near future.
The last date on which DPD will accept applications using the 2006 codes will be November 22, 2010. Beginning on November 23, applications must comply with the 2009 Seattle building, residential, mechanical, fuel gas, and existing building codes.
Legislation adopting the 2009 Seattle building, residential, mechanical, fuel gas, and existing building codes has been submitted to the City Council. Our most current estimate is that the codes will take effect in early September, followed by a 60 day “grace period” when applicants can choose to use the 2006 or 2009 codes.
The 2009 editions of the Seattle Building Code, Seattle Existing Building, Seattle Mechanical Code and Seattle Fuel Gas Code are tentatively scheduled to take effect this August, followed by a 60-day period during which applicants are allowed to choose whether to use the 2006 or 2009 codes.
DPD is on schedule for new editions of 6 codes to take effect next summer or fall 2010, close to the effective date of the State codes. Public review of the 2009 Seattle Building, Residential, Existing Building, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Energy codes is almost complete. We expect the ordinances adopting these codes to take effect in August, followed by a 60-day period during which applicants will have the choice of using the 2006 or 2009 codes.
Public review drafts of the 2009 editions of the Seattle Building Code, Seattle Existing Building, Seattle Mechanical Code and Seattle Fuel Gas Code will be available in mid-October or early November.
