Construction Codes Advisory Board Seeking Members
Mayor Mike McGinn is looking for 6 new members for the Construction Codes Advisory Board. Board members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council for renewable, three‐year terms. We are recruiting for an architect, general contractor, electrical contractor, commercial building owner or operator, developer or contractor of residential projects, and representative of organized labor.

2009 Energy Code Now in Effect Statewide for Residential Spaces
The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for residential spaces took effect statewide on January 1, 2011. (The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for nonresidential spaces took effect on November 23, 2010.) 2009 Seattle Energy Code Now in Effect for Nonresidential Spaces
The 2009 Seattle Energy Code is now in effect for nonresidential spaces. The revised requirements for residential spaces will take effect on January 1, 2011. For determining the 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements, you need to look at both the 2009 Washington State Energy Code and the Seattle ordinance.
2009 Technical Codes Availability
The last day to submit permit applications using the 2006 Seattle Codes is November 22. This includes the Building, Residential, Mechanical, Fuel Gas and Existing Buildings codes, as well as the nonresidential portions of the Seattle Energy Code.
We expect the code books to be available in the near future.
2009 Seattle Energy Code Approved
The 2009 Seattle Energy Code has now been approved. City Council approved the 2009 Seattle Energy Code on October 18, 2010. The Mayor signed the legislation on October 22, 2010.
Seattle City Council to Continue Consideration of the 2009 Seattle Energy Code Ordinance Later This Fall
In late August, the Mayor forwarded the 2009 Seattle Energy Code ordinance to the Seattle City Council. On September 29, 2010, the Seattle City Council Committee on the Built Environment began consideration of the 2009 Seattle Energy Code ordinance. However, the Committee on the Built Environment was not able to complete their review. Consequently, the Committee on the Built Environment will continue their discussion of the 2009 Seattle Energy Code at a future meeting later this fall.
Council Expected to Consider 2009 Seattle Energy Code in September
In late August, the Mayor forwarded the 2009 Seattle Energy Code ordinance to the Seattle City Council. It is expected that the ordinance will be referred to the Committee on the Built Environment, as this is the committee that considered the ordinances for the other construction codes.
