Updated Core Tap Procedures for Storm and Sewer Mains
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has updated their Core Tap Procedures for Storm and Sewer Mains web page to make it easier to understand. SPU also made updates to match their current practice for installing tees in a variety of pipe materials.
Storm Drain Insert Reminder
With the onset of the rainy season, SDCI is reminding builders working in Seattle to inspect and maintain any temporary storm drain inserts they have installed as part of construction projects. The inserts, also known as storm drain socks, are used on many construction projects to catch sediment not captured by other required construction-related erosion control measures.

SEPA Decision for Low Impact Development Code Changes
DPD has completed the SEPA review of the proposed low impact development (LID) code changes. DPD has also updated the LID website has been updated to include links to the LID ordinance/code amendments, Director’s Report, SEPA Decision, and the SEPA Checklist.
Urban Land Institute Urban Resilience Panel Studies South Park and Georgetown Neighborhoods
During the week of June 21 – 26 a group of national experts gathered in Seattle to study the Duwamish riverfront neighborhoods of South Park and Georgetown to assess the challenges climate change is expected to present in the form of rising sea levels. This “Resilience Panel” was one of several taking place in cities throughout the U.S., convened by the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and made possible through a generous grant from the Kresge Foundation.
Updated Tree and Vegetation Protection Details
DPD has updated the Construction Stormwater Control Plan and Post Construction Soil Management Plan, with a new tree and vegetation protection detail. The detail now includes the standard requirements to protect code-defined exceptional trees or any tree requiring protection during construction. It includes directions on who to contact when you may need to make field-identified modifications to the required tree protection zone.
New Draft Director’s Rule About Flow Control Requirements and Combined Sewer Basins
The Director of Seattle Public Utilities is proposing rule DWW-430.1, Flow Control Requirements for Projects in Identified Public Combined Sewer Basins. The proposed draft and map exhibit for the SODO/Waterfront Basin are available on the Project Documents page of our Stormwater Code & Rules Update website.
Low Impact Development
DPD is conducting a systematic review of our regulations to better integrate low-impact development (LID), a stormwater management strategy that strives to mimic natural hydrologic processes. This review is a requirement of our municipal stormwater permit from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
