On September 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the corner of 23rd and Cherry will be transformed into the Central Area Block Party for the entire community. You won’t want to miss out on a great time with your neighbors enjoying live music, food trucks, art activities, and more.
What’s this about? The block party is related to the 23rd Avenue Action Plan, a placed-based community development project led DPD’s Community Development team. Through an inclusive community engagement process, the action plan aims to:
- Confirm and update visions in previous Central Area action plans, with a focus around the three community cores at 23rd Ave and East Union St, 23rd Ave and East Cherry St, and 23rd Ave South and South Jackson St.
- Develop a shared vision
- Create a framework for actions that leverage resources and investments
The 23rd Ave Advisory Core Team has worked in partnership with the City and the community, since the beginning of the process, to hold the Central Area vision while balancing a variety of community interests with the goal of developing a shared vision and implementation plan. We have finished the planning process and are now moving into the implementation phase. The community will review and comment on our proposed plans at the Central Area Block Party.
This block party is sponsored by the 23rd Ave Advisory Core Team. Besides having a good time, this block party is an opportunity for the Central Area community to learn and provide feedback on the 23rd Ave Action Plan, the Central Area Urban Design Framework, and rezoning plans. You can also meet our Advisory Core Team members who helped shape these plans and receive the most current update on the 23rd Ave corridor improvement. Come enjoy the party and join your neighbors to take action to improve and make an impact on your community.
