We’ve come a long way since our permitting software went live in April. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback from customers on how to improve the new system. Here are the highlights of the customer suggested improvements we’ve made so far.
Reminder: Are YOU Prepared for Landslides?
Did you know that most landslides occur between the months of November and March? As rainfall continues to increase throughout the fall, the threat of landslides will continue to rise this winter. Landslide season is upon us, so the City of Seattle is urging residents to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their property from possible landslides.
Members Sought for Seattle’s Design Review Boards
Passionate about design or architecture? Mayor Jenny Durkan is looking for qualified candidates to fill 8 upcoming openings on the City of Seattle’s Design Review Boards. Board members evaluate the design of new buildings based on citywide and neighborhood-specific design guidelines. The boards review large mixed-use developments, multifamily housing, and commercial projects. The volunteer positions will start on April 4, 2019, when retiring board members’ terms expire.
New Status Filters for Permit Applications
SDCI made an update to the Seattle Services Portal that now allows you to filter your permit applications by permit status. We also added two new statuses, Intake Appointment Scheduled and Intake Scheduled and Documents Submitted. The new filter option will make it easier for you to track your projects.
Save the Date(s) for the North and South Seattle Home Fairs
Once again, the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections is hosting the Seattle Home Fair! Jam-packed with useful information about your planned remodel, our permitting process, renting in Seattle, and so much more, this is an event not to be missed!
We had such a great turn out for the South Seattle Home Fair over the past two years, we added an additional event to bring these important resources to even more of you: the new North Seattle Home Fair!
Leaf Blower Best Practices
Autumn is upon us and with that comes falling leaves. In response to Council direction, SDCI has worked with other departments to prepare a pamphlet and webpage with tips and suggestions for leaf blower usage. These are based on best practices recommended by City staff and cover topics such as environmental quality, courteous usage, noise reduction and alternative methods.
Reminder: Time to Apply for a Grading Season Extension
The rainy season is rapidly approaching, which means it’s time to think about whether you will be doing any grading between November 1 and March 31. If your project includes Geotechnical Special Inspections AND if your project is in an environmentally critical area or involves a large quantity of earth-moving, check your special inspection permit record for an item called “Monitor Grading Season Restriction.” If you see “Monitor Grading Season Restriction” on your record, this means that grading between November 1 and March 31 is prohibited unless you apply for and receive a Grading Season Extension.
New Report Highlights Energy Savings and Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Measuring and tracking building performance offers multiple opportunities to lower energy use. A recent report released by the City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and Environment reveals that Seattle’s benchmarked buildings are reducing greenhouse gas emissions, saving money, and improving performance.
