SDCI held four public meetings in January to review proposed 2018 Seattle Energy Code amendments, with over a hundred stakeholders participating. Participants considered three dozen proposed amendments during the ten hours of meetings. As a result, SDCI is making modifications to most of the proposals and will eliminate a few proposals. The proposals were largely focused on reducing carbon emissions, maintaining a high-quality building envelope, using electricity efficiently, and introducing renewable energy. Some proposals required more efficient technology, such as windows or lighting controls, while others revised compliance rules, such as energy modeling and additional efficiency credits.
SDCI will post the revised proposals incorporating the revisions developed during the public meetings on the website, www.seattle.gov/sdci, in early February. SDCI will also schedule the final public review meeting in February.
