We’re Updating Our Permitting System in Early 2017
We’re replacing our current permitting system, Hansen, with new software called Accela by early 2017. It will be easier to use than the permit portal we have now! We’ll keep you updated on all of the upcoming changes and information that you’ll need to know.
2017 Changes to Permitting Fees and Other Charges
The Seattle City Council recently adopted the 2017-18 budget, including legislation that implements Seattle DCI fee changes in 2017 to cover wage increases in order to reflect our cost of doing business. On January 1, 2017, these service fees go into effect.
Fall Protection Safety Measures are Required on All Construction Sites
Fall protection is a job site safety requirement nationally and in the State of Washington. Job sites are required to meet safety requirements and our inspectors are responsible to abide by requirements for basic Fall Protection. If a Seattle inspector is at a site where an unsafe condition is present, they will not enter the unsafe area, which could result in failure of your inspection.

Landslide season is upon us, so the City of Seattle is urging residents to take preventive measures to protect themselves and their property from possible landslides.
Update – Proposed Code Amendments for Vacant Buildings Are Now Available
Draft legislation is available to review on our Vacant Building Code Updates website. The legislation would update provisions for the maintenance and demolition of vacant buildings. The proposed amendments to the Housing and Building Maintenance Code (Title 22) and the Land Use Code (Title 23) respond to an increase in the problems associated with vacant buildings in the city.
Update – Unreinforced Masonry Retrofit Policy
We will be reconvening the URM Policy Committee on December 6, 2016 in room 4080 at the Seattle Municipal Tower. The committee will discuss the results of the URM inventory validation and hear updates since the last meeting in April 2014. This is the first in a series of 3 meetings to finalize the committee’s January 2013 draft recommendations on a retrofit policy for URMs.
Environmentally Critical Areas Public Hearing
The Seattle City Council’s Planning, Land Use, and Zoning (PLUZ) Committee has scheduled a public hearing to take comments on the proposed Environmentally Critical Areas (ECA) updated regulations. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the PLUZ committee meeting that begins at 9:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers located on the 2nd Floor of City Hall at 600 Fourth Avenue.

The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Announces HALA Outreach Events
The Department of Neighborhoods will be hosting five inclusive events in the next few months to talk with you about proposed neighborhood changes to create more affordable housing. Each gathering will also feature a handful of other City efforts ranging from parks and trees to transportation and democracy vouchers. The events will be a great one-stop shop for you to learn about a range of topics and share your feedback with the City. All are welcome!
