The City Council’s Regional Development and Sustainability Committee will hold a public hearing to take comments on DPD’s proposed code changes to support urban agriculture on July 21, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. The hearing will be held in the Council’s Chamber, 2nd floor, Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Avenue.
Governor’s Award Given to Neighborhood Planning
City of Seattle has won a Judges Merit Award for its innovative civic engagement efforts for Neighborhood Planning Updates and Status Check. Gov. Chris Gregoire announced the winners of her 2010 Smart Communities Awards for creating livable communities in Washington State.
Thomas Streetscape Concept Design Update
On the evening of May 25 DPD held a community meeting about streetscape concept design for Thomas St. from Eastlake Ave. to Elliott Ave. Thomas St. is one of three streets that will be reconnected across Aurora Ave. (SR 99) when the north portal of the waterfront tunnel is completed. This will create opportunity for a continuous green street pedestrian corridor through South Lake Union, Seattle Center, and the Uptown neighborhood.
Public Meeting for a Rezone in Greenwood Town Center
DPD will host a public meeting to discuss the Greenwood Town Center Rezone proposal on Tuesday, June 29th from 6:00-8:00. The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, located at 7500 Greenwood Avenue.

Northgate Design Guidelines Under Review by City Council
The City Council’s Committee on the Built Environment (COBE) is currently reviewing proposed updates to Northgate’s Urban Center & Overlay District Design Guidelines. Council will hold a public hearing to take comments on June 23rd, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Council’s Chamber, 2nd floor, Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Avenue.
Thomas Street Concept Plan Public Meeting
On Tuesday, May 25, 2010, DPD will hold a public meeting to present draft design concepts for Thomas Street.
After extensive input from neighborhood groups and property owners, DPD urban designers are developing a concept plan for Thomas St. from Eastlake Avenue to Myrtle Edwards Park, passing through South Lake Union, Seattle Center, and Uptown. Although currently divided by Aurora, Thomas St. will be reconnected as one continuous surface road when the North Portal of the waterfront tunnel is completed. This will create an important new pedestrian connection between neighborhoods.
Council Proposal for New Lowrise Multifamily Zoning
The City Council’s Committee on the Built Environment’s proposal for new lowrise multifamily zoning is available for public review. The proposed legislation would amend the Land Use Code, Seattle’s policies pursuant to the Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and Tree Regulations to update lowrise zoning and other provisions.
Comprehensive Plan Amendments in 2010
Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan, Toward a Sustainable Seattle, guides decisions about growth over a 20-year horizon by articulating goals and policies that accommodate growth while preserving what Seattle citizens value about our city and region. The Comprehensive Plan annual amendments cycle provides an opportunity to propose amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan that address changing conditions or emerging issues. On March 29, 2010, the City Council approved Ordinance 123267, amending the Comprehensive Plan.
Your Seattle Planning Commission – 2010 and Beyond
The Seattle Planning Commission is comprised of 16 volunteers, all of whom are appointed by the Mayor or the City Council. The commission is an independent and objective body that advises the Mayor, City Council and City departments on “broad planning goals, policies and plans for…development of the city.” We are the stewards of the City’s Comprehensive Plan and are deeply involved in citywide and neighborhood planning activities.
