The Design Review Program is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill 12 upcoming openings on the city of Seattle’s Design Review Boards. The deadline for submitting an application is December 10, 2013. The volunteer positions will begin April 4, 2014 when retiring board members’ terms expire.
Reminder: Seeking New Design Commissioners
The City is looking for new Seattle Design Commission members to fill two upcoming vacancies – one for a registered architect and the other for an experienced surface water management design professional, preferably a civil engineer. Both positions will start their terms in March 2014. To be considered, please send a letter of interest and resume by December 13, 2013.
November Publication Updates
DPD published a draft Director’s Rule about implementing the fee subtitle. We also published a final Director’s Rule on tenant relocation assistance and five final joint DPD / SDOT Director’s Rules.
Electronic Plan Review Required for Some Master Use Permits
Effective December 1, Master Use Permit applications for lot boundary adjustments, unit lot subdivision and short plats must be submitted via DPD’s electronic plan review portal.
2013 – 14 Annual Amendments to the Seattle Comprehensive Plan
The City’s Comprehensive Plan, Toward a Sustainable Seattle, is a 20-year vision and roadmap for Seattle’s future. The plan guides City decisions on where to add new jobs and houses, how to improve our transportation system, and where to invest in utilities, sidewalks, and open space. The Comprehensive Plan is the framework for most of Seattle’s big-picture decisions on how to grow while preserving and improving our neighborhoods. The Comprehensive Plan meets the requirements of the Washington State Growth Management Act and helps nurture our environment, quality of life, and economic development.
Stadium District Study and Duwamish Industrial Lands Study Recommendations
Today DPD released Stadium District Study Recommendations and the Duwamish M/IC Policy and Land Use Study. We are interested in your feedback about our ideas because in early 2014 the City Council will consider whether to make policy changes to the Comprehensive Plan based on our recommendations and your feedback. We will be taking comments through December 2, 2013
Uptown: Framework for the Future
DPD and the Uptown Alliance are cohosting an Uptown community open house to kick off a year-long planning effort that will result in an Urban Design Framework (UDF) for the Uptown Urban Center.

DPD will have inspectors available for Q&A at two community centers in November! Come and get answers to your how-to questions about permits, electrical installations, remodeling, or adding on to your home.
Deadline Extended for New Construction Codes Advisory Board Members
We have extended the deadline for applications to the Construction Codes Advisory Board to December 6, 2013. Available positions represent organized labor, general contractors, and apartment building owners and operators. As a board member, you would help review codes that affect the design and construction of buildings and Seattle’s built environment. DPD relies heavily on the board’s advice, as do the city’s elected officials.
