Following last year’s successful migration of its Public Space Management permits to the Seattle Services Portal (SSP), the Street Use Division of the Seattle Department of Transportation will complete its transition to the SSP on November 9, 2020. To better integrate with SDCI and other city departments, Street Use’s move from Hansen to the SSP will make permitting and inspections more consistent, predictable, and transparent for online applicants.

SR 99 Closure and Street Use Permitting Information
Based on information provided by WSDOT, on January 11, 2019, State Route 99 through downtown Seattle will be closing for approximately three weeks to realign SR 99 into the new tunnel. During the closure, both the viaduct and the tunnel will be closed. Drivers should expect up to six weeks of region-wide congestion.
New Permitting Software Pilots Underway
We’re piloting some permit application types in our new permitting system. We’re starting small and limiting participation in this early phase – the pilots are by invitation only at this point. We plan to fully launch the system later this year.
Quicker Permitting Option for Single-Family Substantial Alterations
On October 1, 2017, we will begin issuing some single family substantial alteration projects as a Subject-to-Field-Inspection (STFI) permit. We often issue STFI permits on the same day you apply.
New Requirement for Online Electrical Plan Review Applications
Beginning April 17, 2017 all electrical plan review applications must be submitted electronically using the SDCI Project Portal.

We’re replacing our current permitting system, Hansen, with new software called Accela by early 2017. It will be easier to use than the permit portal we have now! We’ll keep you updated on all of the upcoming changes and information that you’ll need to know.
