DPD continues to work with the U District community on several related urban design efforts. Building off of the extensive public input we received while writing the U District Urban Design Framework, we’ve started an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to study several possible zoning scenarios. A public scoping process in September and October helped us develop the alternatives and scope of the study. The EIS will address topics including aesthetics, traffic, open space, infrastructure, housing, and historic resources. We plan to release a draft for public review in late winter.
Street Concept Plans for Public Review
DPD and the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) are releasing final versions of several streetscape concept plans for public comment. The streetscape plans are guides for improvements to streets and sidewalks that can be made over time when new buildings are built, or with city sponsored projects. These streetscape plans were done as part of our planning in neighborhoods throughout the city over the past few years.
Roosevelt Neighborhood Streetscape Concept Plans
In the summer of 2010 we partnered with the Roosevelt community to create streetscape concept plans. Our shared Roosevelt Neighborhood Streetscape Concept Plans , prepared in collaboration with the Seattle Department of Transportation, reflect the community’s priorities for areas around the future Roosevelt Light Rail station.
May Publication Updates
DPD released a new Tip, Subdivision Process and Requirements, and a final Director’s Rule, Westlake and 7th Streetscape Concept Plan.
West Seattle Triangle Planning
The West Seattle Triangle Planning Project has concluded a year-long planning process covering the area near the junctions of Fauntleroy Way SW, SW Alaska Street, and 35th Avenue SW. Over 35 public meetings were held bringing together residents, property owners, business interests and others interested in the future of this gateway to West Seattle. The culmination of this planning process is expected to result in two key outcomes: 1) proposed zoning changes and amendments to the Land Use Code governing development in the Triangle; and 2) a streetscape concept plan that will guide street improvements in the area.
