Event brings City experts and residents together to talk permitting, renting, trees, and more
SEATTLE — The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) invites homeowners, renters, landlords, and anyone planning their next construction project to attend the Seattle Home Fair.
When: November 8, 9:00 AM – 3 PM.
Where: Filipino Community Center.
The free, in-person event offers residents the chance to connect directly with City experts about building regulations, permitting, inspections, rental housing rules, and other City services. The Home Fair will feature six hours of live learning sessions and 20+ areas of expertise, with representatives from SDCI, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), Department of Neighborhoods (DON), and Seattle City Light.
What to Expect
Participants can talk directly with staff and learn about a range of topics, including:
- Building codes and when to schedule a “subject-to-field” inspection
- Earthquake retrofitting for older homes
- Tree protection and maintenance requirements under Seattle’s Tree Code
- Rent stabilization and new rental housing regulations
- Energy efficiency and renewable energy programs from Seattle City Light
- Neighborhood Matching Funds and other community resources
On-site interpretation will be available (Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog).

Learning Session Schedule
- 9:30–11:00 AM | Earthquake Retrofits — Learn how to make your pre-1980s home earthquake-ready.
- 10:30–12:00 PM | Seattle Tree Codes — Understand the City’s updated tree regulations and permitting process.
- 11:30–1:00 PM | How Does the Code Impact You and Our Community? — Learn the basics of housing codes, rental rules, and property standards.
- 12:30–2:00 PM | Seattle City Light Residential Programs — Discover affordable ways to increase renewable energy use.
- 1:30–3:00 PM | Rent Stabilization — Understand what’s legally required to raise rent, give notice, and meet service standards.

Driving: Parking is limited; street parking is available.
Transit: A 15-minute walk from Columbia City Light Rail Station.
