Seattle’s Design Review Program is seeking new volunteer board members to join the program in April 2016. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our built environment and civic engagement. The deadline to apply is December 14, 2015.
Backyard Cottage Lunch & Learn
On December 9, from noon to 1:00 p.m., Councilmember Mike O’Brien is hosting a Lunch & Learn with the Department of Planning and Development to explore opportunities to increase production of backyard cottages. The event, at City Hall’s Council Chambers (600 4th Ave), will feature backyard cottage owners discussing their experiences permitting and constructing their cottages.
Hundreds of Comments on the Seattle 2035 Draft Plan
DPD received over 2,100 comments, opinions, letters and surveys about the Seattle 2035 Draft Comprehensive Plan! Staff is now organizing and reviewing your feedback.The Draft Plan went live for public review in July 2015 and we received online comments throughout the summer and fall. We also hosted five open houses in October and November.
The conversation with the community will continue next year after City Council receives the Mayor’s Final Plan, and as community meetings about urban village boundaries and HALA begin. Look for the release of the Mayor’s Plan, Final EIS, and Final Equity Analysis in March 2016.

New Environmental (SEPA) Review Requirements
Environmental review thresholds (under the State Environmental Policy Act – SEPA) will change on Monday, November 16, 2015, affecting the following Urban Centers and Villages: Northgate, South Lake Union, North Rainier, Rainier Beach and North Beacon Hill.
Uptown Planning Open House
On October 8, DPD will hold an open house and scoping meeting for several important initiatives in the Uptown Urban Center.
City Seeking Confirmation of Priorities for the North Delridge Action Plan
The City of Seattle is collaborating with the North Delridge community to produce a shared vision and action plan to continue improving the health and equity of the Delridge neighborhood. The City and community advisory committee have responded to community direction and produced a draft “Action Plan” for the North Delridge area.

Seattle Arena Approved by the Seattle Design Commission
After thoughtful consideration this morning, the Seattle Design Commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval of the proposed arena at 1700 1st Avenue South. This comes on the heels of a recommended approval by the Design Review Board earlier this week.
Shaping Seattle: Buildings, Putting Design Review on the Map
Today, the Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) unveiled its newest online map application, Shaping Seattle: Buildings. The map provides the locations and detailed information on active Seattle development projects that require Design Review.
