The Neighborhood Planning team is wrapping up the second round of plan updates. The team is drafting final language for the neighborhood plan updates and responding to comments on the proposals shared at open houses this past October and November. The Neighborhood Planning team is working with the Neighborhood Advisory Committees in both Rainier Beach and Broadview – Bitter Lake – Haller Lake.
DPD Recommends Comprehensive Plan Amendments
DPD has sent to Council the department’s recommendations for annual amendments to Seattle’s Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is a collection of City-adopted goals and policies to guide growth over a 20-year period, currently 2004-2024. State law allows the City to make changes to the plan once a year. In April 2011 individuals, groups, elected officials, City Councilmembers, and City departments submitted proposed changes. Council held a hearing in June, and subsequently directed DPD to evaluate 13 proposals.
Northgate Community Urban Study Open House
Following the public meeting in late July and an online survey, we have drawn up options that show future urban design and development possibilities for this area south of the mall. They include interesting ideas for creating urban plazas, active and green streetscapes, and a more complete neighborhood district near the light rail station.
Seattle Planning Commission to Release “Housing Seattle” Report
You’re invited to the release of a new report, Housing Seattle, by the Seattle Planning Commission. This report includes data-driven insights on progress towards meeting Seattle’s housing goals. It also includes findings, recommendations, and priorities for City housing policies and programs.
2012 Washington State Energy Code
Now that the 2012 versions of the I-codes have been published by the International Code Council (ICC), the Washington State Building Code Council (WSBCC) is beginning to ramp up for the 2012 updates to the Washington State Codes.
DPD Project Portal: More Ways to Skip the Trip
DPD has rolled out the Project Portal, a new set of online tools for permit applicants. You can now use the Portal to conduct your online permitting business with DPD.
October Permit Turnaround Times
DPD is committed to providing good customer service to its applicants. The permit turnaround data is updated monthly online and can be viewed at www.seattle.gov/dpd/resourcecenter (go to “Turnaround/Approval Times 2011”).
Green Code Development
A green building code known as the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) is currently under development by the International Code Council (ICC) and slated to be published in March of 2012. This code will respond to the need for high performance measures related to site development, material resource conservation, energy conservation, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and commissioning.
Seattle Raises the Bar to LEED Gold Plus
The Sustainable Buildings and Sites Policy for municipal facilities in Seattle, Resolution 31326, was signed by Mayor McGinn on October 12, following the unanimous vote of approval from City Council. The legislation increases standards for the design, construction and operation of City buildings and sites in order to support city-wide goals for sustainable development.
