DPD Service Changes Coming
Today the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) announced changes in services for applicants and the public. The changes are in response to the continued slow down in the development sector, which has significantly reduced permit related revenue for the department and resulted in a series of layoffs since the beginning of 2009. The latest round of layoffs takes effect October 1. The service changes are scheduled to go into effect October 18.
Survey: ASC and Plans Routing Hours of Operation Change
Due to decreased permit activity, DPD has experienced significant layoffs as well as cuts to non-personnel costs. We are committed to providing good service to our customers, but we need to adjust our service hours due to the layoffs and limited amount of resources.
Upgrading Self-Issued Electrical Permit System
In May we announced our plan to upgrade DPD’s system for self-issued electrical permits. Those changes are now scheduled to be launched in September. The upgraded system handles additional permit items, is more secure, and is easier to maintain.
2009 Seattle Codes Take Effect September 23
The 2009 Seattle building, residential, mechanical, fuel gas, and existing building codes will take effect on September 23, 2010. The effective date is followed by a 60-day period during which applicants may choose to use either the 2006 or 2009 codes. The last date on which DPD will accept applications using the 2006 codes will be November 22, 2010.
Council Expected to Consider 2009 Seattle Energy Code in September
In late August, the Mayor forwarded the 2009 Seattle Energy Code ordinance to the Seattle City Council. It is expected that the ordinance will be referred to the Committee on the Built Environment, as this is the committee that considered the ordinances for the other construction codes.
