Seattle DCI has recently clarified its interpretation of the Seattle Residential Code (SRC) requirements for accessory dwelling units (ADUs). (ADUs are separate living spaces within a house.). Our code requirements are different, depending on whether the ADU is in a new construction project, or it is a remodel of an existing space within a single-family residence.
Installing Floor Heating Mats
Electric floor heating mats are frequently installed under bathroom floors to warm the flooring. Seattle DCI has learned that some of these floor heaters are being installed and covered before obtaining an electrical inspection.
2015 Seattle Commercial Building Energy Code
Following four public review sessions, the draft 2015 Seattle Commercial Energy Code is now posted on our 2015 Seattle Codes Adoption website. Our thanks to the dozens of local experts who volunteered their time through these hours of meetings, refining and improving the proposals. Seattle is committed to being a carbon-neutral city by the year 2050, and increasing the energy efficiency of our building stock will be a critical component of that transition.
SDOT Street Use Right-of-Way Permit Rates
SDOT Street Use right-of-way permit rates are changing—rewarding well-prepared applicants and moving to project/service-based permitting. In the midst of Seattle’s development surge, right-of-way permit rates have remained the same for 5 years. That’s led to deferred service enhancements and backlogs as Street Use Permit Services now reviews, inspects, and issues approximately 32,000 permits per year. The new rate model follows many months of outreach, assessment, and modeling to address our city’s rapid growth and increasing construction density.
