Mayor Mike McGinn is looking for a transportation engineer or transportation planner to serve on the Seattle Design Commission. The transportation engineer or planner would provide advice, as a member of the commission, on plans for new public projects such as fire stations, parks, and streetscapes, on private projects that affect the city’s right-of-way, and on major projects that affect the whole city, such as the waterfront and light rail stations.
Northgate Urban Design
DPD has published a draft Urban Design Framework (UDF) for the Northgate Urban Center. The UDF lays out a general direction for the type of development the City would like to see in the area in the future and the types of public improvements that should accompany that development.
Unreinforced Masonry Retrofit Policy Update
DPD received draft recommendations from the Unreinforced Masonry (URM) Policy Committee in January 2013 for a mandatory seismic retrofit policy for URM buildings. The committee requested a cost-benefit analysis on alternatives. The purpose of the analysis is to provide information for final recommendations by the URM Policy Committee and to inform decisions by the Mayor and City Council on a mandatory retrofit program.
Members Sought for Seattle’s Living Building and Deep Green Pilot Technical Advisory Group
The City of Seattle is looking for qualified candidates to fill 10 positions in the City’s new Living Building and Deep Green Pilot Technical Advisory Group. These volunteer positions are expected to be filled by September 2013 so work can begin immediately following. The role of the advisory group will be to provide recommendations to the Department of Planning and Development on updating the City’s Living Building and Seattle Deep Green Pilot Program, which aims to promote sustainable building and development.

Roosevelt Neighborhood Streetscape Concept Plans
In the summer of 2010 we partnered with the Roosevelt community to create streetscape concept plans. Our shared Roosevelt Neighborhood Streetscape Concept Plans , prepared in collaboration with the Seattle Department of Transportation, reflect the community’s priorities for areas around the future Roosevelt Light Rail station.
Micro Dwelling Units
DPD has monitored micro dwelling units in Seattle for about two years. We are now evaluating our rules to make sure we have, clear, and consistent regulations. Our evaluation is based on our research and on concerns raised by the public and elected officials.
Developing Small Single-Family Lots
On June 27, DPD made our draft proposal available for public review. We also issued a related environmental review (under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA)) and decision. You can submit comments or appeal our proposal until July 18, 2013.
