DPD is planning four meetings in November to gather community feedback before finalizing the Mayor’s Final Recommended Seattle Comprehensive Plan. DPD is extending comments on the Draft Plan through Friday, November 20. The Plan will be finalized and transmitted to the City Council in early 2016.
Uptown Open House
On October 8 DPD and Seattle Center cosponsored a community meeting to: release the draft Uptown Urban Design Framework; begin an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) scoping comment period for a potential rezone for the Uptown Urban Center; and kick-off the Seattle Center and Uptown Parking Strategy Study.
Re-Roof Permit Requirements
Did you know that the City of Seattle has a re-roof permit requirement? One- and two-family homes are exempt from the permit. However, commercial and multifamily buildings could require a re-roofing permit. A re-roof permit is required when you are repairing an area greater than 500 square feet or replacing roofing materials on commercial and multifamily projects.
Storm Drain Insert Reminder
With onset of the rainy season, DPD is reminding builders working in Seattle to inspect and maintain any temporary storm drain inserts they have installed as part of construction projects.
The inserts, also known as storm drain socks, are used on many construction projects to catch sediment not captured upstream by other construction-related erosion control devices.
Commercial Mechanical Plan Review Appointments
You need to schedule a submittal appointment in order to apply for a commercial mechanical plan review permit. Effective immediately, you may submit only one application per appointment. We recently reduced the length of each appointment and added additional appointments each week.
Protect Yourself from Lead-Based Paint
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is asking for your help! In 2010 the EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting Rule went into effect. The rule requires contractors performing renovation, repair or painting work that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child-care facilities, and schools built before 1978 to be certified. Contractors must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
Improving Pedestrian Mobility In and Around Work Zones
Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) proposing a revised Director’s Rule for Pedestrian Mobility in and Around Work Zones. The goal is to make it easier and safer for people to walk in our growing city. The expanded rule (SDOT DR 10-2015) emphasizes that safety is the priority and sidewalk closures are a last resort.

Seattle’s Design Review Program is seeking new volunteer board members to join the program in April 2016. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about our built environment and civic engagement.
Draft Transportation and Urban Design Recommendations for Ballard
DPD and the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) have been working with neighborhood groups and non-profits to develop a coordinated Urban Design and Transportation Framework (UDTF) in anticipation of possible light rail to Ballard. The groups are organized as the Ballard Partnership for Smart Growth. The study, called Move Ballard, responds to the neighborhood’s growth and development and Sound Transit’s planning for a possible light rail extension to Ballard.
