DPD is updating Seattleās Shoreline Master Program (SMP). DPD will release a draft of the proposed updates to the SMP for public review on January 2011.
Residential Rental Property Licensing and Inspections
The City of Seattle desires effective means to address problem rental housing units and improve rental housing conditions for Seattle residents. While the City recognizes that the great majority of housing units in the city meet basic standards of habitability, we know that there are some units that clearly do not.
Land Use Monthly Billing
We are gradually moving into a monthly billing system for land use projects. When fully automated, an invoice will be sent to any project which has accrued fees during a given month. Invoices will also be sent and monitored at the time a decision is ready to be published or a permit is issued.
2009 Energy Code Now in Effect Statewide for Residential Spaces
The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for residential spaces took effect statewide on January 1, 2011. (The 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements for nonresidential spaces took effect on November 23, 2010.) For determining the 2009 Seattle Energy Code requirements, you need to look at both the 2009 Washington State Energy Code and Seattle ordinance 123430.
Side Sewer Code Revised
On December 20, amendments to the Side Sewer Code, Chapters 21.16 and 21.24 of the Seattle Municipal Code, were signed by Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn. The Side Sewer Code amendments will be effective January 19, 2011. DPD and Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will start implementation and posting revisions to rules and forms related to side sewers on the DPD web site over the next two months.

Community and City Complete South Lake Union Urban Design Framework
Working with key community stakeholders in the South Lake Union neighborhood, DPD has completed work on the South Lake Union Urban Design Framework (UDF). The South Lake Union UDF establishes a shared design vision for the physical development of the South Lake Union neighborhood. The UDF bridges 15 years of community planning work in the neighborhood with concrete implementation actions.
