Industrial Lands Policy Discussion
DPD is hosting a series of meetings in March to discuss proposed industrial lands policies that are part of Seattle 2035 – the City’s major comprehensive plan update. DPD is considering specific land use policies for designated Manufacturing and Industrial Centers (M/IC) that will preserve these areas for ongoing industrial use. The proposed policies would limit the potential for converting property to non-industrial uses unless specific criteria are met.
Reminder: Seeking Representatives for the Construction Codes Advisory Board
Mayor Ed Murray announced that he is seeking candidates for two vacant positions on Seattle’s Construction Codes Advisory Board. The current open positions are for an electrical engineer representative and a general public representative.
The board is a 13-member body that works together to research, analyze, and make recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, and DPD on the technical codes affecting buildings in Seattle.
New Seattle Public Utilities Development Services Office
On January 26, Seattle Public Utilities’ Development Services Office (DSO) officially opened its doors on the 27th floor of the Seattle Municipal Tower (5th and Columbia), 700 Fifth Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104.
Stormwater Code and Stormwater Manual Update
In May 2014, DPD published the Draft 2015 City of Seattle Stormwater Code and Stormwater Manual, Volumes 1 through 5, and the appendices. They are available for review on our Stormwater Codes & Rules Update website.
Updated Tree and Vegetation Protection Details
DPD has updated the Construction Stormwater Control Plan and Post Construction Soil Management Plan, with a new tree and vegetation protection detail. The detail now includes the standard requirements to protect code-defined exceptional trees or any tree requiring protection during construction.

Environmental Critical Areas Open House Wrap Up
On Wednesday, February 25, DPD hosted an open house at City Hall for the 2015 update to our environmentally critical areas (ECAs) regulations. We presented an overview of what ECAs are, how we regulate them, and what changes we are considering in this update. We also had large maps of each ECA type on display.
