DPD is on schedule for new editions of seven codes to take effect next summer or fall. Public review of the 2012 Seattle building, residential, existing building, mechanical, fuel gas, energy and plumbing codes is almost complete. We expect the ordinances adopting these codes to take effect this summer, followed by a 60-day period during which applicants can use either the 2009 or 2012 codes.
U District Livability Partnership Milestones
Since late 2011, DPD has been working with the U District community toward completion of an Urban Design Framework in April of this year. The Urban Design Framework will provide broad guidance for future development, streetscapes, public spaces, and other investments as the neighborhood changes over the coming decades. Much of the change anticipated in the U District will result from the light rail coming on-line in 2021, bringing 12,000 riders to the neighborhood daily.

Changes to the neighborhood guidelines are limited to formatting changes; none of the original content of the neighborhood-specific guidelines has been changed.
Own or Manage a Building in Seattle?
For buildings larger than 50,000 square feet that complied last year, most of the work is done. It is important to review and update existing benchmarking data before the upcoming April 1 deadline. Doing so is the owner’s responsibility to ensure an accurate and on-time report of 2012 energy performance.
