Reminder: Plan Review Process Refresher

Back on January 10th, SDCI transitioned to providing plan reviews via plan mark-up instead of traditional letters. This Building Connections article serves as a resources refresher for applicants responding to review comments.

No Electrical Inspections September 27

We will not conduct electrical inspections on Tuesday, September 27, to allow our inspectors to take an all-day training. This training will renew our journeyman certifications and helps ensure that we are conducting our inspections based on the most current standards.

Renter’s Handbook 2nd Edition Now Available

It’s finally here! The 2nd edition of the Renter’s Handbook is now available for digital download. Notable changes to the handbook include the addition of the Economic Displacement Relocation Assistance ordinance (EDRA) that went into effect on July 1 as well as information on Notice of Intent to Sell and updates to the expanded Just Cause Eviction provisions.

New Trade Licensing Exam Process

SDCI’s Trade Licensing Program is transitioning to a new testing process that will provide trade license exams online through our website using the Quiz Maker Program. We will begin administering Boiler Fireman Grade 4 exams on this new system starting September 1, 2022.

New Rules Require Seattle Tree Service Providers to Register With the City

The City Council recently passed Council Bill 120207 requiring 1) tree service providers to register with the City of Seattle before conducting commercial tree work and consultations on private property and 2) property owners to post a public notice on-site before any tree work beyond routine maintenance. The tree service provider registry will be accessible to the public so that owners, residents, and neighbors can be assured a registered company knowledgeable with tree regulations and best practices is completing work in their neighborhood. 

Plan Review Process Reminder

On January 10, 2022, SDCI transitioned to providing plan reviews via plan mark-up instead of traditional letters. The primary change for this plan review process is that applicants document responses to comments directly in the plan set provided to them by SDCI at the end of each review cycle instead of sending response letters corresponding to each correction letter.

Seattle City Light Publishes New Metering Standard for Consistency and Safety

Seattle City Light (SCL) recently developed a new electric metering standard to clarify discrepancies and ensure consistent interpretation related to placement of equipment (e.g., cable boxes, downspouts, etc.) within the defined electric meter working space.
